Understanding your cervical mucus

Every day for 4 months you will track your cervical mucus qualities in the app

There are 7 options for you to choose from and there should always be an option that corresponds to your cervical mucus.

It will often be obvious what your cervical mucus looks/feels like. For instance, when you are on your period (Menstruating), this looks and feels very different from having Dry/no discharge or having Sticky discharge.

Other times it might feel like your cervical mucus could be described as more than one of the options available.

Which option should you choose?

You will likely mostly be reporting Dry or sticky, Wet and watery, or Creamy, to describe your cervical mucus. If you are deciding between these options, use your best judgement.

The most important thing is that you try your best to 1) correctly report when you are menstruating and 2) correctly report when your cervical mucus looks very wet and stretchy, resembles raw egg white. We rely on these ratings to accurately understand your menstrual cycles.

  1. Dry or no discharge

Can make your vagina feel dry, rough, or itchy

2. Sticky

Can look like small sticky lumps in your underwear.

Can feel gluey or tacky between your fingers. Can feel like a slightly sticky sensation in your vagina.


3. Creamy

Can look thick, creamy, whiteish or yellowish in your underwear.

Can feel like lotion between your fingers.
Can feel like a damp sensation in your vagina.

4. Wet and Watery

Can look clear in your underwear.

Can feel watery between your fingers. Can feel like a wet sensation in your vagina.

5. Very wet and stretchy, resembles raw egg white

Looks transparent, similar to raw egg white. Looks and feels stretchy or elastic.

It will make your underwear feel wet, slippery, and smooth.

6. Menstruating

Flow of blood that occurs during your period

7. Spotting

Different from menstruation - spotting happens outside of your period.


Can look light pink, very minimal, usually not enough to use a pad or tampon.

Important things to remember:

  1. You should only report Menstruating on the days of the month that you are on your period. If you skip a morning when you are menstruating, we may incorrectly mark your cycle as being shorter than it really is, so please be sure to report each and every day that you are menstruating.

  2. You might notice that you are not often experiencing discharge that is Very wet and stretchy, resembles raw egg white. That is because this type of discharge can signal ovulation, which happens during one short window per cycle. This usually happens approximately 2 weeks after your period.
    However, we know that it is possible that a person does not ovulate during a cycle, which means you might not experience Very wet and stretchy, resembles raw egg white.
